GISBORNE RAILWAY
MR. COATES'S DATA (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBOENE, This Day. "The only figures I have any knowledge of in connection with your railway are those contained in the report to Parliament made in 1924-25, which indicated that the line represented a 4 per cent, investment," stated the Eight Hon. J. G. Coates, .in a review of the G'isborne Railway Committee's ease. Mr. Coates stated further that these figures were -compiled after a full iuquiry as to the costs of construction, as estimated at that time, and of the anticipated revenue, and that they had been sufficiently encouraging to decide the Reform Government of the day to proc&ed with the linking up of Gisborne with the Main Trunk railway j system of the North Island. Tho statement was made by Mr. Coates in the course of a discussion of the district case in respect of railway connection with members of the Gisborno Railway Committee.
