FORMAL INSTALLATION

COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN

MANY- CHANGES

The new Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T.\ C. A. Hislop, and members of the City Council for the 1931-32 term of oflice, will hold their first meeting -at uoon to-morrow in the Council Chamber. The meeting will be purely formal, the members of the new -'council making and signing the following declaration:— I, , do hereby declare that I will faithfully and impartially, and according to the best of my skill and judgment, execute .the powers- and authorities vested in mo as Mayor (or councillor) of (name of borough) by virtue of tho Municipal Corporations Act, 1920. In accordance with past practice the retiring Mayor, Mr. G. A. Troup, will preside during the first stages of tho meeting', and Mr. Hislop will then tak§ the chair and briefly address the gathering. There will be room for "a good number of the public at tho back of tho chamber. REARRANGED COMMITTEES. It is expected that within a few day» a definite announcement will be. made of the rearrangement of committee members and their selections as t« chairmen. This year there will ba more changes in personnel and in chairmanships than-for long past, for seven out of sixteen who made up the old council are not members of. the new council, the retiring Mayor, Mr. G. A. Troup, the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Luckie, and Councillors Burn, Hildreth, Mitchell Morpeth, and'Wright. Several of these gentlemen were chairmen of different committees, and Mr. Troup was chair-, man of several council committees (Air Port, Finance, and Tramways), as well as of the City and Suburban Water and Highways Boards. The Milk Committee has had almost a complete change round, for of its seven members only tho chairman; Councillor W. H. Bennett, remains. The probable ne-w chairmen of committees are as follows, the names of the old chairmen - being given in- parentheses:— Airport Committee: The Mayor, Mr. Hislop. (The Mayor, Mr. Troup). Bylaws and Street Lighting:: Councillor Hnggins (Councillor Luckie). Financo and Property: The Mayof; (the Mayor). Legislation, Leaseholds, and Lib* raries: Councillor Gandinj Councillor Chapman is also being mentioned (Mr. Hislop)'. Milk: Councillor W. H. Bennett (Councillor W. H. Bennett). Observatory: Councillor Huggins (Mr. Hislop). Public Health and Abattoirs: Councillor Chapman (Councillor Meadow* croffc). Eoservcs: Councillor Meadowcroft or Councillor Gaudin (Councillor B. G. H. Bum). iStaff Committee: Councillor Huggint (Councillor Huggins).Tramways and Electricity: ' ThS Mayor (the Mayor). . Works: Councillor Forsyth (Councillor' Wright). Councillor Bennett, as senior-council" lor, will presumably assume the office of Deputy Mayor. THE NEW HARBOUR BOARD. The personnel of' the new' HarbouJ; Board is as follows: — Chairman, to be selectedby the mem* bers from their number. Mr. A. Fletcher, appointed by th«, Government. Four city members: Messrs. H. D, Bennett, C. J. B. Norwood, G. A, Troup, and Captain F. A. Macindoe. Two Hutt and Makara district members: Mr. J. W. M'Ewan and Captain,' C. F. Post. Two Manawatu members: Messrs W« L. Fitzhcrbert and M. A. Eliott. Two Wairarapa members: Messrs, H. Morrison and T. R- Barrer. Two representatives of payers of dues on ships: Captain C. M'Arthui; and Mr. C. M. Turrell. One representative' of payers of other dues: Mr. D. J. M'Gowan. The recount .of votes cast in the Hps« pital Board election is not yet completed. '
