PLEA FOR PROTECTION
Ac-cording to a. private cablegram, received in Wellington to-day, the executive committee of the Cape area branch of the Empire Group of South Africa states that it is not convinced that th? amendment ■to the Statute of Wesmin ster resolution, moved by General Smuts and adopted by the Union Par liament, adequately protects Irnperia/ connections or the ideals of loyal South Africans, aad strongly protests: against1 the Statute- of Westminster;becoming au Act of Parliament without the inclusion of the entrenched clauses of the South. Africa Act, 1909, which secure the rights of the English, language and protect the interests of the natives. The safeguarding of these clauses is regarded as cssontial.
