CHRISTIANITY AND BUSINESS
Mr. I). A. Ewen was the speaker at the monthly meeting of the Congregational Men's League .at the Cambridge Terrace Church Hall on Monday night. Forty men sat down to tea.
Mr. Ewen defended the connection between Christianity and commerce. Commerce, he said, was inseparable from modern life, and in it there was nothing which' need ■be incompatiblel with' Christianity. Indeed, one, might-say that-sound business, must be based' on miiny .of theattributes ;of -religion; No> business deal, was a good deal which did not.give satisfaction to both" parties. ,■;■ ":■;■'• ~, ..;.:■;
Mr. Ewen sketched the great improvement that had been seen in the course of time in the conditions of life in factories, and read extracts from Dean Inge's "England," ■which showed by contrast the immense change that the conscience of mankind had effected in commercial life.
Mr. Ewen was heartily thanked for a thoughtfnl and attractive address. Mr. Basil Potton was elected assistant secretary of the league in place of Mr. Tredrea, who" resigned.
