A Bridge Party. A very enjoyable bridge party wns given ~by Mrs". N. B. ■ Gibbons at her home at Lower Hutfc recently. Mrs. Gibbons received tho guests,' wearing a frock of black georgette. Bridge was played in the drawing-room, which was beautifully decorated with bronze chrysanthemums and autumn tints. Among those present were Mesdames Bunny, Watkins, Chapman, Hutchiso7i, Dnncan, Olpliert, 'Foster, Edward Biddiford, yon Zedlitz, Bayne; Wyett, Jervis, G-rear, Barney, Mason,'■ Gentry, Misses Zita Chapman, I. and A. Good work is being dono by ' the ladies who have joined the committee of tho Wellington Symphony Orchestra, and it is hoped that the first concert for the year, which takes place on Saturday evening, will be, a great success from the point of view of attendance, as it promises excellently on tho musical side. Mrs. Moricc presided at a...meeting of the executive of the 'Wellington1' AVonieu's Organisation of the Cancer Campaign, held recently. ■'• in the Mayoress's Koom, Town Hall. The proceedings opened with some very touching remarks from the president in ■ reference to the late Mr. J. P., Firth, P.M.G., and a vote of condolence was passed, to bo. forwarded to, Mrs. Firth, all standing as a mark of respect to tho memory of a great schoolmaster and citizen! The resignation of Mrs. H. S. Hadfield as hou. secretary of tho Women's Organisation was received ,with regret, the president and other members paying a tribute to the value and sincerity of her work, and she was asked to retain a position on the. executive, an offer which was accepted with pleasure. A hearty vote of , thanks to Mrs. Troup for the use of- the Mayoress's room as a meeting centre was passed. It was decided' not to start any fresh work for the campaign'in the immediate present, and the : matter of filling the position of honi secretary was left to the president. ■ > Aftex-Care Executive. A well-attended meeting of the executive of! the Af ter-CaTe .Society was held recon tly, when. Mrs. H. S. Hadfield (president) was in th/e chair.; An objective of the' association, an "Occupation Centre," was discussed" with a great; deal of enthusiasm and .interest, and it is hoped that one may materialise in a short' space of time. It,was decided to call a meeting of members and. those interested in the work among tho special class children, and the older ones who have left-school at an early date, "when tho work will be reviewed and fresh plans made. Applications for. help with clothing,' also knitting cotton, needles, anfl, other equipment for the ' Children.V Club were received.. This club is an immense pleasure to a number of children and their mothers. It was decided- to hold a party for the regular attendants' and their mothers . early,in June, as the committee realised how much 'pleasure this would give.
