GREATER PRODUCTION
EIGHT MONTHS' GRADINGS
The director of the Dairy Division (Mr. W. M. Singleton) reports that on the grading returns for butter and cheese for the eight months of the current dairying season there has been an increase in butter fat production of 2.07 per cent, for the period when comparison is made with the corresponding months of the 1929-30 season. Gradings have been as follows:— 1931 1930 — tons. tons. Butter 84,051 83,409 Cheese 76,233 71,021 Increase in butter for the season, 0.76 per cent; increase in cheese, 6.83 per cent. Description of butter graded for the season was as follows:— IS3I 1930 tons. tons. Unsalted 3206 82,039 Salted < 80,845 1370 84,051 83,409 Description of cheese graded was as follows:— 1931 1930 tons. tons. White , 52,040 47,473 Coloured 24,193 23,548 76,233 71,021 Gradings for the month of March only were 9345 tons butter, compared with 9855 tons for March, 1930, a decrease of 5.17 per cent. Gradings of cheese for March, last were 8962 tons, compared with 9814 tons for March, 1930, a decrease of 8.6S per cent.
