UNSETTLED WEATHER
"A SLOW IMPROVEMENT
A 'second cyclone, "but of rattier less intensity, has followed that which brought. heavy rain yesterday. Vari-, able winds, but with north-westerlies prevailing, have ruled north of Canterbury and Wcstland. Tho weather has been unsettled generally, -with further rain in scattered places, although there has been an improvement. Yesterday s rain was confined chiefly to western districts. Palls of over two inches were recorded at East Cape and Greymouth, and over an inch at "Wanganui, Puysesuu Point, ana Okimi. Over the South Island thunderstorms were in evidence. ■ ~,,,, Of the main centres, Auckland had the best weather yesterday. It was fair to fine there with a light to moderate westerly wind. In Wellington it was showery and misty for the greater part of tho day, although there were a few breaks in the afternoon. The wind was a. moderate north-westerly. Light and variable winds prevailed in Christchurcb, when the weather was cloudy with showers hi the lute afternoon and1 evening. At Dunedin a dull day was followed by heavy rain at night. . ' Winds over the South Island will be variable,, according to the forecast issued at noon to-day, but elsewhere moderate north-westerlies may be expected at first. A general change to south-westerlies or southerlies, however, may be expected to supervene within the next 24 hours. Changeable weather with scattered showers is likely. In places rain1 will be heavy, and thunderstorms and hail are indicated. To-morrow should bring au improvement in tho weather, with cooler temperatures.
