THIS YEAR'S EXAMINERS
The examiner for elocution for this year in New Zealand is Mr. Paul EclmondSj who was educated at Oundle School, and studied elocution in London with Charles Fry, and singing with various masters in London and Paris. As a lecturer in elocution and other subjects, Mr. Edmonds is well known in England. During the past few years he has lectured to many public schools in England, including Eton and Harrow, and to the principal literary societies; also in. the United States and Canada. When a prisoner in Asia Minor for two and a half years, following the surrender of Kut, he conducted a choir and produced plays. Mr. Edmonds is the author of "Peacocks and Pagodas" and "To the Land of the Eagle," and the composer of some popular song books. For some years he has been closely identified with Trinity College as examiner in elocution, both at diploma and.local examinations. Dr. Vaughan Thomas will be the examiner for music (practical subjects) for the North Island. Dr. Thomas was educated at Llandovcry School, and Exeter College, Oxford, of which University he is a Master of Arts (graduating in the Honour School of Mathematics), and a Doctor of Music. He has had a very wide experience as an adjudicator at the principal musical competition festivals of Great Britain, Ireland, and the United States of America. As specialist inspector in music to the Central Welsh, Board, he has issued a report, for the Board of Education, on the teaching of music in tho secondary schools of Wales. His compositions have been produced, from time to time, at important centres, including the .Cardiff and Gloucester triennial musical festivals, tho Queen's Hall, London, Liverpool, Birmingham, and the concerts of the Welsh National Eisteddfod. Dr. Thomas is well known also as a lecturer, orchestral, and choral conductor.
