NEW FASCIST ASSIZES
JUDGE AND ASSESSOKS

The jury, like a.ll other Liberal institutions, is of 'English origin, and must therefore be abandoned by Fascism, writes Signor Roeco, Minister of Justice, in explaining tho constitution of tho new Assize Courts as one of the most notable of Fascist reforms. . He declares that the jury system introduced in 1859 lias been unsuccessful. Jurymen, incompetent and irresponsible, have ofteii given absurd verdicts. In one instance a man who had confessed to killing and cutting tip his wife, was acquitted of murder, but condemned on the charge of cutting up a corpse. Signor Rocco explains that the new Assizes will consist of two Judges and five lay' Judges or assessors.
