EXPORT OF WHEAT

LOWEST SINCE 1905

WASHINGTON, sth April.

The Department of Agriculture has announced that gravity of the situation confronting the American farmer in endeavouring to dispose of his products abroad is emphasised by the fact that the export of the principal agricultural products dropped enormously in the first few months of the current fiscal year. Dominant features of the export trade were drastic reductions in the export of wheat a.nd wheat flour. The report states that the wheat grain exports in February were only 137,000 bushels —the lowest month since June, 1905. During the eight months ended 28th February, 1931, only 56,807,000 bushels of wheat were exported, with a value of 0.1,502,000 dollars, compared with the previous similar eight months, in which the figures were 73,213,000 bushels, valued at 1)3,983,000 dollars.
