GOLD MAKER'S FAKE
GRAIN HIDDEN IN CIGARETTE
MUNICH, 24th January.
Dr. Hohage, the expert investigating Tausend ?s experiments in "gold making" on behalf of an important firm, gave evidence that he, watched the "alchemist" for three hours, in which he did not produco gold.
Eventually Tausend dropped a cigarette end into the gold-making machine, in which a small piece of gold later was found. Dr. Hohage contends that this supports the prosecution's assertion that Tausend inserted gold concealed in cigarette ends when dfcmonstrating to the Bavarian mint.
TausenS is charged with swindling people of nearly £100,000. He was originally a plumber, whose machinations were lucrative enough to enable him to buy a castle in the Tyrol and another at 'Dresden, where he lived in great state with, his wife, an ex-bar-maid, financings a Hitlerite newspaper to the extent of £5000. He proclaimed his discovery of the art of goldmaking after studying the history of the work of medieval alchemists. A company was formed to exploit the "invention." It included Ludendorff, Alfred Mannesmann, and the Princes Hermann arid Ulrich of Schonburg-Waldenburg, and scientists and business men.
