NEW BRIGHTON TROTS

HORSES TRAINED ON COURSE

HAVE GOOD DAY

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "Tho Evening Post.") CHEISTCHUKOH, This Day. The .New Brighton Trotting Club's Meeting,, .which was held ou Saturday in live weather, attracted an average attendance, and provided some good sport. The totalisator ligures were £17,106 10s, compared with £23,791 at the March meeting last year. Horses trained on the course were prominent throughout the day, and won the last live events on the programme._ Kilbiruie i)au had a very easy win iv the Innovation Handicap, as he was^ in front soon after (joing half a uiile, and made only one mistake on the journey. He is only a lo.ur-yeur-old, and is likely to show a lot of improvement. His trainer, K. Townley, has won the opening event at the, last three New Brighton Meetings wiith lwanta, Lough (Jmy, and Jiilbirnie Dan. Duco trotted well in the Innovation Handicap, as he was early in a good position, and never lost it. When under pressure in the. concluding stages he broke, and he had not settled down when the winning post was reached. Dillon Logan, who won the Shirley Handicap from the back mark, put up a very attractive performance. He had to go round a large field, and stuck to his work with [great gameness. He is a four-year-old by John Dillon, owned and trained at Kangiora. He showed smart form whon racing ou the West Coast during the holidays; and is likely to reach good class. • Lydia Pointer has been racing in better form of late, and finished well in the Shirley Handicap, just beating Location for second place after being in a good position nil the way. She came out later in the Summer Handicap, and again ran seconi,, narrowly beaten by Some Guy. so she must be considered unlucky. BEST RACE TO DATE. After racing badly at Timaru, Keg.il Voyage 'won very decisively at Wellington. For this she was penalised 24yds in the Waimairi.Handicap. She was not well supported, but she paced her best race to date, and wore Milo Minto down at the finish. In some of her races she has •' not kept to her pit, but she is now performing very solidly. It looked as though 0. E. Hooper, behind Milo Minto, might have made more use of his pacer, in the last furlong of the Waimairi Handicap, as he had a lead then. Probably he did not expect Regal Voyage's resolute challenge. Milo Minto is now |' staying on well over two miles, and an he is only five years old, he should be capable ~pf further improvement. The imported' horse Colonial Boy was a strong favourite for the Waimairi Handicap, but raced disappointingly. He was well placed all through the journey, but faded out when the final struggle was on. He will need to do much better to justify his reputation. . ' ■ Some Giiy gave L. Frost a well-deserved win in the Summer Handicap. He is a well-bred gelding by Some Guy from Cammie, a sister to Prince Pointer, and is best over Bhort courses. Achray trotted well in the Summer Handicap, as he was always in a good position, and finished third. The Author Dillon pacer has a lot of speed, but lacks stamina. Kate Logan, the winner of the Avon Handicap, is at the top of her form at present,, as she was successful at Greymouth early in the month. She is well mannered and a smart beginner; the latter quality giving her a decided advantage in the sprint event. Had Denver Hinds gone off well in the Avon Handicap, in which she finished second to Kate Logan, she would have been hard to beat, as she was pacing fast over the last half-mile. & PATIENCE REWARDED. H. Fi;ost has been very patient with the trotter. Eepute, who won the New Brighton Handicap. She was in front all the way, and though her gait was not faultless, she stayed on well. Repute has improved in her barrier manners and also in .stamina. Her dam Renown -was a speedy but. unreliable trotter. ' ;...■■..'

1 J. J. Kennerley has Aileen Wood trotting in her best style now. She'ran a couple of sound races at Wellington, and trotted well in the New Brighton Handicap. Now that she has settled down she should show further improvement. She is by Wildwood, who, sired some good trottfers, while her • dam Aileen was a pacing sister, to the once brilliant Emmeline. °! ■,'•.■ Tenedos, who won the Beach Handicap, raced badly at the previous meeting 'at New Brighton, while he stood on the mark at ithei Canterbury Park Meeting this month.! He never looked like being beaten in the Beach Handicap, as he was early in the lead and paced on solidly, and scored easily. Baynut paced well, and came second in the BeAch Handicap. He has in the past raced best over two miles, but is now being tried as a sprinter.. Although'a' good stayer, he requires a big course, as he does not take tho turns at all well.'Cranleigh, the winner of the i'Farewell Handicap, was successful a fortnight ago in the mile saddle event at Timaru. He won so easily there that his victory at New Brighton was fully anticipated. He is a brilliant young horse, by Travis Axworthy, and haa not nearly reached his limi^. V , . S A. Edwards has a couple of useful pacers iin Tenedos and Cranleigh, who won the last two races at New Brighton for him. The young trainer has clone well lately, and these "two horses will keep him prominent for some time.: , , ~; *
