PERFORMANCES AT NAPIER
NAPIER, 25th January. The touring American athletes competed at Napier on Saturday afternoon, and put up some good performances. 'In the shot-put Harlow Rothert made a throw of 47ft sin, which is better than the Australian and New Zealand record of P. Munro of 46ft o%in. He threw the javelin 182 ft 4in, and the discus between 138 ft and 140 ft, the latter being stepped out and not measured. George Simpson did 220 yards on a straight track in 21 l-ssec, which is 1-5 sec better than the New Zealand record for a straight track. In the 100 yards his time was 9 4-ssec, which is equal to the New Zealand record. • Kiser, who is still suffering from the effects of the sea voyage, ran a mile in 4min 31sec and 440 yards in 52 3-ssec. W. Brady, Wellington and Dominion high jump champion, jumped sft loin, and in the pole vault he cleared Oft Win, both of which heights have never before been done on the Napier ground. Conditions were ideal, the day being fine with very little wind. The attendance was 1200, which is the largest that has ever been preserft at an athletic meeting in Hawkes Bay.
