FIVE INJURED

SWERVE OVER BANK

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, 25th January. Five people were injured when • a motor-lorry containing 14 picnickers, overturned at Omana Beach, about 30 miles from Auckland, to-night. The following were, admitted to hospital:— ' ' ■ Miss P. Bell, of Waverley street, severe internal injuries. Miss K. Sexton, of Mangatarata, injury to right knee and concussion. Miss D. Kowe, 7 Vincent street, concussion. Miss A. P. Chambers, ' 20, Epsom avenue, injury to left shoulder and concussion. Miss B. Miller, Omahu road, Remu7ra, sevei'e concussion. ■ The lorry was owned by L. Briggs and Co., of Brown's Bay, and was driven by Mr. Lockett. The party had spent the day at Omana Beach, a little distance north of Marae'tai, and the accident happened soon after they had set out on the return journey to Auckland. - , Members of the party stated that during the descent of .a steep hill, about two miles from Omana Beach, one of the front tires punctured, causing the lorry to swerve to the right and go over a 30-foot bank. Belief was organised from Omana Beach by a horseman who saw the lorry overturn just after it had passed him on the hill. The St. John Ambulance was informed, and the victims were taken to hospital. Those who were suffering only bruises and minor injuries were taken to their homes.in private cars.
