MINIATURE RIFLES

(Notes by "Aperture") ONSLOW CLUB. The Onslow Miniature Eiflo Club bold its first annual dance and social on Wednesday, 26th November. Jn spite o£ the unseasonable weather, there was a attendance of members and friends and representatives of other clubs. The president, Mr. S. Wright, in his address of welcome, thanked all present for their j .support. He paid a special tribute to | the ladies whose valuable help had so 1 largely contributed to the success of the evening. Mr. Wright then called on the club patron, Mr. K. A. Wright M..11., to present the prizes. The successful competitors wore as follows: Mr. 1". Monk, club champion, Witeombe aud Cakhvcll Cup and gold medal; Air. F. E. Bradshaw, vunnerup, silver medal and Weeds Shield; Mr. J. M'Donald, W. 11. Tisdall Cup and miniature; Mr. W. Fettes, the Khandallah Progress Asosciatiou's gold medal; Mrs. R. D. Potts, the Hammond lavjje spoon; (first prize ladies' handicap aggregate);_ Mrs. F. Alouk, set teaspoons, second prize; Miss Curtis (top score), Miss Coppiek, Miss Andrews, and Miss Fettes (first year ladies who completed season's shoot); Miss Coppick, the Potts Button, winner of final shoot and holder of button until defeated; the Fctles Buttons, H. Weeds's team (H. Weeds, F. Freeman, A. Butt, F. Kelly). A miniature cup was presented to jb\ .Freeman by the club captain, F. Monk, for the first possible scored on the range. Prizes were given for' lucky spot and other dances. A very enjoyable supper was provided in the supper room. The club has now closed dowu until nest March. PETONE LADIES' CLUB. The Petone Ladies' Miniature Rifle Club held its usual shoot on 24th .November in the form of a social evening for members' husbands aud friends. There was a large attendance, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. A match, ladies" versus gentlemen, was fired, and resulted in a win for the ladies by a small margin. Mr. Thessman topped the score for his side by securing a possible. After a dainty supper had been served by the hostesses the annual presentation of prizes took place. The trophies were presented by Mrs. Jones. The successful competitors were as follow: "A" grade champion, Mrs. Taylor; runner-up, Miss V. Pratley; "!• grade champion, Mrs. Scott; runnerup, Mrs. Thessman; C. K. Wild Cup, Miss Gregory; Puller Cup, Miss Gregory; Mr. M'Kenzie's trophy, Miss Turner; Mr. Scott's trophy, Mrs. Rotheray; Mr. Pratley's trophy, Mrs. Taylor; Mr. T. Thessman's trophy, Miss Wild; Mr. Goldfinch's trophy, Mrs. Aldridge; Mr. Rotheray's trophy, Mrs. Thessman; Mr. Porter's trophy, Mrs. Scott; Mr. Brian's trophy, Mrs. Aldridge; Mr. Aldridgc's trophy for highest number of eights, Mrs. Jones; Mr. Porter's trophy, Mrs. Brian; Mrs. Jones's trophy, Mrs. Taylor; club's trophy, Miss Pratley; Miss Pratley's trophy, Miss 'Freeman. The "ScrogV's Fern," which has been won by various members during the season, is at present held by Mrs. Aldridge. Miss Jones, the captain, in extending to the visitors a very hearty welcome, said that her club mates were a very happy family, and were looking forward to the time when they would be able to entertain their guests on the new range which was now being constructed. Miss Jones expressed the hope that that evening would be but the forerunner of many others, and would still further cement the friendships that now existed. Messrs Aldridge, Ffrost, and Scott replied on behalf of the visitors. Three cheers for the Ladies' Club brought a very enjoyable evening and a successful season to a close. RAILWAY CLUB. A very enjoyable annual reunion oi past and present members was held on the railway range on Ist December. Among the past members present were Messrs. J. Dayman, M. K. JUwart, G. Hay-Mac-kenzie, W. li. Lee, a. Muir, F. i'ortcous, aud G. 11. Wilson. A friendly match between, the past and present members resulted us follows:— Present members—Mrs. Cook 50, Corks 00, Miss Armstrong 47, Miss Banks 47, JMiss M'Clugguge -it, Miss Ciomlwiu -1-j, Miss Benn -M, Miss Stott, 3'J; total 3BJ. Past members—Wilson CO, Ewart -.IS, Muir 47, Lee 46, Hay-Mackenzie 45, Dayman 40, Porteous 39, Wilson 38; total 3J7. While supper was in progress Mr. F. Porteous presented the trophies won during the season to the successful competitors, namely— Hiley Cup and Battalion Shield: Chief Accountant's ladies, first round; Chief Mechanical Engineer's, second round aud final round. Mrs. Haslam's trophies (seven shoots, three own handicaps, and lour sealed handicaps): Mrs. Cook 488, Ist, and Miss M'Cluggage, 478, 2nd. Lynde Cup (12 shoots, inter-club matches to count): M'Dougall, average GS.4; Ist, aud Corles with an average of (57.(5, 2nd. Ladies' medal and "[Sunday Times' certificate (8 inter-club match scores and two nominated shoots): Mrs. Cook, average 67.3, Ist, and Miss M'Cluggage, average G7.1, 2nd. Bell Medal and "Daily Telegraph" certificate (8 best shoots in inter-club matches): M'Dougall, average CS.S. Ist: and Corles, 138.1, 2nd. "Daily Mail" certificate; new members (men), (i shoots: Shaw, average 05.(i, Ist. "Times" certificate; mciv members (ladies), 6 shoots: Miss Stott, average 04.1, Ist. Mr. W. H. Cook, on behalf of his club, extended n cordial welcome to past members and to "Aperture.'' He trusted that the enjoyable evening would recall many other happy times and would result in renewed activity in club affairs. Mr.' F. Porteous said he was delighted that so many of the past members were present, and expressed the hope that they would meet again in the future. Mr. d. R. Wilson, ■on behalf of the members, presented Mrs. Cook with a supper set as a small token of their esteem, and said lie hoped it would remind her how much they had enjoyed her suppers in the past. Mr. Wilson voiced the feeling of members- when he expressed how highly they appreciated Mrs. Cook—a great acquisition to the club and a great asset on the social side. Mr. N. E. Jilwart said he was glad of the opportunity to renew acquaintance with the sport after a lengthy absence, and that he felt it vas time that most of them came back again. He thanked the club for the enjoyable evening and congratulated the prize winners. Mr. W. Lee thanked the members of the club for the very enjoyable evening. He was glad of the opportunity to be present. He hoped that many new members would come forward next year, and if the good resolutions that Jie had made were any reflection of how the other past members felt they would serve to stimulate a great deal of interest in club affairs. Mr. Cook extended to "Aperture" (Mr. A. V. G. Wilson) a very cordial welcome. Miniature rifle shooting had received a great deal of publicity, and had thus resulted in a rapid growth of the sport. Mr. Wilson expressed his appreciation of their heartfelt welcome. He said he was very glad of1 any opportunity to help the sport along to the best of his ability. He realised that any little credit that was due to him was due in a larger measure, to the co-operation of all clubs and the liberal space allowed in the columns of the Press.'. He congratulated the ladies of the club on the high standard maintained by them.
