BREACH OF SAFETY RULES
On a ehargo of .failing to keep a lookout at a. railway, crossing near Paekakariki, Ernest Berwick Was fined £4 by Mr. E. Page, S.M., to-day. The railway engine-driver, said Sub-Inspec-tor Lopdell, reported that he saw the car approaching about half a mile before it reached the crossing. Ho blew the whistle, but the car did not slacken speed. The car was driven pretty fast, and crossed in front of the engine when it was quite close. The defendant, who pleaded guilty, submitted that there was plenty of room when ho crossed the line, and that he had not increased his speed when approaching, the crossing.
