QUESTION FOR ANGLERS Prohibition of the use of rods consisting of only one piece of a greater length than lift will be put into force if the Minister of Marine acts upon a resolution passed by the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society at a special meeting on Wednesday (states "The Press.") A member explained "; that the regulation would assist in preventing the illegal practice of strokehauling, which was not easily doj^p with ■ a jointed rod. ■■'.', ■ The chairman, Mr. C. H. Lawrence, ; stated that the meeting had been called as a result of a letter received from the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society ; regarding local regulations in force there, and asking whether any similar regulation was in force in tho North Canterbury area. The regulation, in question was as follows:: —;"It shall be unlawful to use any wire, either plain' or twisted, or gimp trace of a greater gauge than 21 standard wire gauge, or a rod consisting of only one piece of a greater length than Jlft." The chairman added that a similar. remit, coming, from the North Canterbury Society, had been passed at the 1929 conference at Wellington and had been adopted, but the consent of the Minis- ' ter had not been given. The Ashburton Society had since,made representations and had had the local regulation passed by Ordor-in-Council of 14th April, 1930. He hoped that members - would see their way clear to secure the passing of a similar regulation for their area. ■ .. Mr. D. H. Hobbs said that after tho remit had been forwarded to the Minister the societies had been advised that the matter would be reconsidered when, tho Act was redrafted, and they had been waiting for that event. . He moved that application be made for a similar local regulation to apply to the North Canterbury area. The motion was carried. It was decided to> notify members by advertisement.as soon as it was known that the, regulation was gazettcdj - and to inform the South Canterbury Association of what action had been taken by the society. ■ ;
