FALSE DECLARATION CHARGE

Arrested thisraf ternoon, a taxi-driver named William- Cornelius Torckler, ■ aged 33, was brought later before the Police Court on a charge of counselling another man on 26th November, 1929, to mako ' a declaration which ■ would amount to perjury if it were made on oath or affirmation in judicial proceedings. The declaration was stated in the charge to have been made in support, of an application by another man for a State Advances loan. When the accused was brought before Mr. Woodward, S.M., a remand was applied for, and this was granted, accused being ordered to appear next Thursday. Bail was allowed in £100, with two sureties of £50 each. The accused was ordered -to report daily to the police. Another arrest made later was that of the man charged with making a false declaration in order-to obtain a; loan from the State Advances Office;
