MORN TILL MIDNIGHT

QUICK CHANGE PROBLEM

A "morn till midnight" toilette awakened much interest and considerable applause when it was displayed among the new autumr. models recently in a London shop, states a correspondent to an Australian paper. It made its debut as a three-piece suit of browngold panno velvet. With velvet skirt and coat (the latter three-quarter length and fur-trimmed), a blouse of cream and gold brocade, and a volvet cap, it fulfilled all the demands of a smart luncheon outfit. The coat and skirt were removed (the latter being accomplished in a trice by merely unfastening a clip), the hat was turned inside out, and the mannequin stood clad throughout in cream and gold brocade, ready for any smart afternoon function. Another "quick" change converted the ensemble into a charming brocade ovening toilette. It was done by letting down some long side draperies previously fastened up invisibly by a clip, removing a cape drapery from the shoulders, and discarding the hat, leaving the wearer suitably dressed for dinner, and dancing until midnight. An intriguing outfit such' as this would simplify the problem of packing one's suitcase for a short visit. Another practical yet amusing model was an afternoon frock of black crepe do chine and cream lace. The sinuous line and close-fitting hips that Fashion demands this season as her duo were achieved by "winding" the skirt closely round the form, and clasping it tightly on one side with a brilliant brooch. The result was a gracefully draped dress that met with much admiration. A number of trim two-piece suits were among other attractive toilettes shown. They had a long tweed coat, and a tailored frock of a smaller-patterned companion tweed. EVENINO TASHIONS. Suppleness and stiffness are features of the evening gowns of the moment. For instance, a lovely frock illustrated in a recent English journal was a gleaming white panno velvet with pleated flounces. This was very chic. Equally so was a frock of stiff black taffeta, the skirt of which measured ten yards at the hem, and down the front of the skirt ornamentations of large patterned flowers were introduced with charming effect. The corsage was cut V-shape at tho neck and linished with an intriguing little peplum Ksque. Both these frocks typified graphically the very_ latest evening modes. Skirts of "evening frocks aro enormously full in some instances, and just brush or just escape the floor, and small basques or peplums are a very special "touch." Some of the newest evening toilettes have fascinating accompaniments in the form of chic little caps and muffs. At a recent London fashion show one of these was

of: black velvet, almost a bonnet in shaY^e, with a. twist of turquoise velvet framings the face; this accompanied :i black velvet evening frock. A cap and "barrel" muff of green taffeta was seen with a white satin evening frock. It was ruched and frayed at tho edges and resembled feathers. Belts arc features, not only of day but' evening gowns, too, and even fur coats this autumn and winter h;i,vo leather belts, in London, some of them in bright red or other vivid tones. For evening, circles of interlaced crystal and other fancy belt effects are- seen on modish frocks, and tho encircling lino is the natural waistline. For the young slim figures, these smart finishing touches aro most attractive. Posessors of less slim figures need to use discrimination in regard to waist ornamentation.
