SECRET FORMULA
BENZINE-MAKER'S CLAIM
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Gordon Dugald Crawford was to-da/ charged with obtaining £100 from tha New Zealand Petrol Company by selling it a formula which was valueless, obtaining £125 by falsely representing that he could manufacture a substitute for benzine, and also stealing £22. Herbert A. Steadman, barrister (agent for the company), giving evidence concerning his negotiations with: the accused and his uncle, said that elaborate s-ecrecy was insisted upon, by] Crawford. When eventually the envelope containing the secret formula was opened, the directors of the company: found that it contained only a statement that the formula was hidden elsewhere.
