N.S.W. UPPER HOUSE
ABOLITION BILL PASSED
J United Press Association—By Electric Tele« graph—Copyright. (Received 4th December, 8 a.m.). SYDNEY, This Day. The Bill lo repeal the Act whicli stipulates that the Legislative Council shall not be abolished until a referendum has been held upon the subject was carried through all stages on the voices, and sent on to the Assembly. It is believed that an attempt will be made to test the validity of the measure in the Courts. Surprise is expressed at the unusual tactics of Opposition members who, however,' still maintain that a referendum will be necessary before the Governor can assent to the measure. The claim of the Government that the Ministry has secured a mandate from the electors to abolish the Chamber is stoutly denied. The view was expressed last night that before th« Governor could give the Boyal Assent to this measure the Courts will be mov» ed to test the constitutionality of thij new legislation.
