SURF BOAT FOR MATAI

Illustrated iv an overseas journal is a surf boat of a type which, although common overseas, is strange to those more familiar with' craft used in Home waters. She has been built by the Southampton Launch and Boat Company for carrying on the New Zealand Government vessel Matai. The boat, which moasures 29ft overall, has a team of Sft and draught of about 3ft. She is constructed with double-skin teak, having a total thickness of l%ln. The timbers are of rock elm. The craft is provided with an enclosed engine compartment, tfie power plant comprising a 14----h.p. two-cylinder Parsons engino which gives a speed of 7 knots. , .
