LYALL BAY CONDITIONS
IMPROVEMENTS DESIRED
At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Lyall Bay Progressive Association, Mr. J. H. BuvgoyneThonlas presiding, a letter was received from the Maranui Surf and Life-saving Club applying for membership. The club will be allowed two delegates on the executive committee, the Lyall Bay Club to have similar representation. By special invitation, both surf clubs were represented at the meeting to discuss the question of beach improvements and the prevention of saml-drift nuisance. It was reported that the City Council was seriously considering the matter. It was resolved to await a copy qf the joint report ,of the City Engineer, the Reserves Committee, and the Tramways Department. The secretary was asked to write in the meantime to the City Council requesting it to have the existing bathing sheds painted, broken windows mended, windows fitted in the open spaces facing south, duckboards provided in the sheds, and the insanitary latrine condemned by the City Engineer some eight months ago removed. It was also resolved to ask the Town Clerk what action the council intended to take in regard to the unsightly broken pipes that were meant to carry away the storm water drainage, but provided only an unhealthy pool, in which young children paddled. In regard to the play area, the site selected by the Mayor, the City Engineer, arid the Director of Reserves met with approval. The association has asked the council to spend'the money it has in hand for apparatus,1 and steps will be taken at an opportune time to raise £150, the amount asked for by the council, as the district's- contribution towards the expenditure involved.
