DEPRESSION PASSES

FINE WEATHER AHEAD

The depression mentioned yesterday by meteorologists aa dominating the weather has moved further eastward, and since last night there has been a fairly considerable rise in barometric pressure in the southern part of the Dominion owing to the approach, from tho Tasman Sea of an anticyclone. Winds, which yesterday were mainly westerly, are now blowing from the south-west or south, but generally speaking are not strong. Although the rain has been fairly widespread, few places.have had heavy falls. Temperatures have been low. The reports received at 9 a.m. to-day indicate that an improvement in the weather has already taken placo jn the AVest Coast of the South Island, and this improvement is expected to extend to the greater part, of the Dominion. The weather in Auckland yesterday was cloudy, and occasional light rain fell with tho westerly breeze that was blowing. In "Wellington during the daytime tho weather remained tine, with a fresh north-westerly wind. Rain during the night fell to the extent of 75 points. It was fine and warm in Christchurch yesterday, but in Dunedin it was dull and unsettled all day, and rain fell in the afternoon. The forecast is for. moderate to strong, but decreasing, southerly or south-wcstorly - winds. Tho weather on the AVest Coast of tho South Island should bo fair to fine, but elsewhere cool and changeable weather with scattered showers may be expected to continue for <i little longer. A. general improvement, however, should soon set in.
