EASTERLY'S HURDLES

LEADS THROUGHOUT CONTEST

Easterly scored decisively in the Cheljtenham Hurdles, after leading the. whole (kva>\ She jumped well throughout, and lover the last half mile shook off strong challenges, first from Novax and then from the first day's winner, Otairi. On her yesterday's effort she should be worth watching in future Jrurdle events. r Otairi again went well, and was much "too good for everything except the winner. He was always near the front, and was fourth into the straight behind Easterly, 2fovar, and Royal Acre. He closed up the.gap between him and the winner considerably in the run down to the post, but he was still two and a half lengths away from her at the end. Novar was- near the tail of the field early; but he improved from the mile, and' ran almost up to the leader on the turn. He had the rail down the straight, but; his effort was expended, and he was four lengths away third at the finish." Best of the others were Royal Acre, Goblin Market, Shining.Armour, and'Disrank. Otairi was a very warm first fancy, with Disrank, Call' Again, and Easterly the only others in any demand. Disrank ran much j ■below his first day's form. Call Again fell.at the second fence, and Plain jane at the five furlongs. Neither rider was hurt. Mister Gamp, having his first race since the Nationals, was a bad last most of the way, but he made up some • ground in the straight.*
