WEEK-END RACING
Tho Heretaunga Boating Club's racing programme was commenced on Saturday afternoon in weather conditions which, while anything but .pleasant from one point of view, provided the various skippers . with thrilling experience. Before the racing started full sail was the order, t>ut as squall after squall swept along the Pctone foreshore* most of the boats were r.eefed down. Even then, before the boats were home again, a boisterous, tricky wind sprang up, and going down to Somes Island it was impossible to make oae board, the wind coming first from the north-cast and lifting the boats almost ont of the water, and then switching round to the west. The beat back was also a difficult matter. The Takapuna boat Nukumai was caught in a gust just off" the wharf and capsized. The jSTgamutu won the- Takapuna class race by lOsec frointhe Euna, and the 12ft 6in Idle Along won in her first start this season in the 14ft and.under class event. Detailed results - were:—• Takapuna Class: Ngarnutu (3sec), lhr 15miD 30sec, 1; Euna (scr), lhr 15miu 40sec, 2; Shirley (6min), lhr 23min 20 sec, 3. Also started: Wairuna (4min), lhr 28min; Kakariki (6min), llir 34 nun; "Waitui (smin), lhr Somin; Nukumai (7min). 14ft and under class: Idle Along (ser), lhr lorain, 1; I Wonder (ser), lhr 17min 40see, 2; Irene (ser), retired. ..
