PRISONERS RECAPTURED
ONE MAKES ANOTHER BID
"(Received 2nd December, 2.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The- two men who escaped from a patrol van at Annandale have both been recaptured. One, Joseph Schmidt, is a notorious criminal. He was caught in a cave at Hurstville. He made another bid for. victory, leaping over the heads of tha police, but' he was- caught and, ironically enough, was taken back to gaol in; the same van from which he made * cunning getaway. This time, however,the floor was of steel.
Two men who were being transported! in a police van through a busy street at Annandalo a fortnight ago escaped by tearing up the floorboards and dropping through. Another prisoner's efforts to alarm the driver and escort weroi counteracted for some time by thai noise of the traffic. Then the constable* received the1 surprise of their lives.
