CANCER FUND CAMPAIGN

UPPER HUTT AND ISLAND BAY

A meeting of tipper Hutt residents interested in the work of the British Empire Cancer Campaign in New Zealand was held at the Cosy Theatre on Sunday afternoon, that being found to be tho most convenient day for some of the country people. The visitors, Mis. Morice and Mrs. H. Hadfield, wore received by the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. M'Curdy). Mrs. Morice outlined the work of the women>s committee, giving somo very interesting statistics, and several were glad to avail themselves of her request for questions. It was then decided to form a committee, with Mrs. Balcombe Brown as president and Mrs. W Curdy as vice-president. Mrs. Youngmau and Mrs. Rogers took over the duties of hon. secretary and treasurer, the other ladies forming a committee with power to add to their number. Subcommittees are to be formed at Trentham, Silverstream, Heretaunga, Wallaceville, Mungaroa, Whitcinan's Valley, Kaitoke, To Marau, and Karapoti, to work in conjunction with the committee formed yesterday. The interest shown was most encouraging. Another successful meeting held recently was at the residence of Mrs. Carvosso at Island Bay, wtien Mrs. Morice explained the object of tho cancer campaign. She was accompanied by Mrs. I-I. Hadflcld and Mrs. M'Vicar. It was decided to form all present into a committee, an hon. secretary and treasurer to bo .elected at the nest meeting. Plans were mado for an immediate start ia tho district, with a strong committee to assist. Mrs. Carvosso entertained all present very pleasantly at afternoon tea.
