TREATMENT
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) / DUNEDIN", This Da» Stating that when Stanley Eedvers Buller struck a sleeping girl, aged 6, over the head with a bottle he was fully, responsible for his act, Mr. Justice Kennedy to-day sentenced the prisoner to nine months' reformative treatment. The medical evidence was that the prisoner showed no signs of insanity, but that the crime could be attributed to drinking prior to the offence. The girl's skull was fractured. The Judge said that the prisoner was fortunate in not being charged with! murder. The true explanation of the prisoner's conduct was that he had struck the girl to spite her father. Although it was some hours since the prisoner took drink, his mind at tho time was apparently in an irritated condition. It might be said in the prisoner's favour that when he thought ha had murdered the girl he immediately, went to the police, and the timely assistance of the latter may have saved the girl's life.
