PACIFIC HIGHWAY
CALIFORNIA TO ALASKA
OFFER OF CONSTRUCTION VICTOKIA (8.C.), 13th November. The Premier of British Columbia, Mr. S. F. Tolmie, has announced that American financial interests, headed by Mr. Samuel Hill, the pioneer northwest' road-builder, has offered to construct a highway from the United States boundary through British Columbia to Alaska, at a cost, of twenty million dollars, in return for hotel concessions along the route and a percentage of the gasoline tax paid on the highway. After the cost of construction has been returned to the builders the road will be given to the province without any cost. The distance will bo several hundred miles. JtTr.. Samuel Hill, who is a lawyer, is an honorary life president of the Washington Good Koads Association, president of the Pacific Highway Association and Everyday Highway Association, and honorary president of the British Columbia Good Eoads League. He was a promoter of tho "Peace Portal" between the United States and Canada, marking 100 years of peace. _______
