BEN HUR ALWAYS IN FRONT The Apprentices' Plate was a good thing for the top-weight, Ben Hur, who came homo with plenty in hand after having' made the whole of the running. He was ridden by N. Vbitre, brother of. K. Voitre, who had just previously had winSi on Havaspot and Tea Chat. Ben Hur was first out, and he was I chased to the straight by Palmary, Apple-:.) dove, Cessation, Night Parade, Colonel Quex, and Appeal. From there on the leader was not in the leust troubled to carry along to two lengths .victory from Cessation, who was a similar distance ahead of Appeal, with Palmary, Night Parade, Swiftray, Colonel Quex, and Miss Hastings. nearest of the others. Appledore was nearly twice as well ■backed as Night Parade, with the John-eeh-Cessation bracket in most demand of the others. Ben Hur carried less than half the amount, invested on the bracket/ Appledorii was prominent most of the way to., .the straight, but then closed up, ■quickly'and finished outside the first eight* It-looks as though, it is going to be a long while yet before he comes near his •two-year-old promise. Night Parade was Well * enough placed throughout, but did not come.on. Appeal will improve, and so will:Swiftray, who was left at the barrier:;,but was going faster than anything lat tlie close. :
