The league match between the above clubs was contested at Wadestown on Saturday, wiien the homo team won by one game, as toilows:—
Total 6 ' Total 5 A cordial welcome was extended to the visitors by Mr. H. K. Simmons, Mr. H. I. Bennett at a later stage, returning thanks for the hospitality extended to the Karori side. During the evening the prizes won in the Wadestown Club's annual handicap tourney were presented as follows:—lst, B. Cough; 2nd, I Morton; 3rd, It. A. Godtschalk, Mr. Cough holds the club's silver cup for a year, but retainß the replica cup that was also handed to bim on Saturday evening. As ho is about to retire on superannuation, and take a trip to England, best wishes for an enjoyable tour and a happy future were oxteuded to him. As the Karori Chess Club has closed down for the summer months, the opportunity was taken to present the prize in that club's first handicap tourney, tho popular winner being Mr. W. Kemblo Welch, who was for some years a prominent member of the Masterton Chess Club. The Hutt Valley and Wadestown Clubs, who have completed their fixtures, arc leading in the league's junior teams' contest, each having scored 3 wins, 1 tie, aud 1 loss. The Xgaio Chess Club will equal this record if it, wins next Saturday's fixture with the Wellington Chess Club. The league's rules provide that in the event of tie in match points the club scoring tho greater number of games wins the competition. On this basis tho Hutt Valley team is leading, as it has scored 18 Vb games to Wadestown's 18.
