The depression' mentioned in Saturday's note moved eastward with unusual' rapidity even for this timo of year. Southerly winds became general during Saturday afternoon, but the change was accompanied by comparatively little rain. By Sunday morning winds had veered again to north-west In districts from. Cook Strait southwards, with the approach of the first of a fresh- aeries of depressions of the westerly type. This morning west or north-west winds were general anil moderate to strong. Rain has been confined principally to districts with a westerly aspect, . and more especially to those in the South Island. There-have, however, been scattered showers elsewhere. There was a cool spell on Saturday afternoon, and evening, but temperatures have for the most part been mild. .-
