New police regulations in Los Angeles ordain that'uniformed officers must keep their hair trimmed, shave once a day, clean and press uniforms ouce a fortnight, wear black shoes, and keep them polished. Socks must be black, and all buttons, badges, and cap-pieces must be goldplated.
