CLASH IN INDIA
POLICE AND RIOTERS
MAGISTRATE KILLED
DELHI, 27th September. Fifteen persons, including an Indian Magistrate and several forest officials, were killed, and over fifty injured; in. a clash between a mob of five thousand rioters and the police in the forest of Chirnar, near Panvel, in the Kolaba province of the Bombay Presidency. The Congress "War Council" of Panvel prevailed on a large number of foresters to disobey tho forest laws and the police arrested five. A large crowd of sympathisers attackod the police and killed tho three forest officials, and attempted to rescue the prisoners. , The police twice opened fire, but failed to quell tho disorder. Armed reinforcements were then rushed to the scene from Bombay.
