HUTT VALLEY V. WADESTOWN
The Hutt Valley Chess Club, which was j only formed four months ago, and already has ■10 members, played its flrst match at Wndostowu on Saturday evening against tho local <!tuu. When the game between the two captains was concluded at II p.m. it was found that the visitors had won a close contest by two games, as follows: — lid. Hutt Valley. Wadestown. 1. Wigham, tho president of the Hutt Valley Club, returned thanks to the local club for providing a most enjoyable evening, and also to tho ladies who were in charge of the refreshment table. It may be added that this stubbornly-contested match was not, a league fixture. It was In the na-. ture of a try-out for the Hutt Valley players, only one of whom (Mr. Wigham) is classified by the Wellington League as being of senior status, whereas the flrst six Wadestown representatives play regularly in the league's senior teams' competition. The Hutt Valley Club, therefore, did remarkably well in scoring a majority of wins at the first six boards CiV« to 2%).
