IN CONVENT.GROUNDS
To raise funds for the now St. Mary's College, which is almost completed, a garden party, combined with a sale of work, was held in the college grounds on Saturday afternoon.. The fete was. opened by Her Excellency Lady Blodisloe, who was accompanied by Sir Johu Hanham. Her Excellency was met.at the gates by tho Rev. Mother, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnston, Mrs. Maoarthy-Eeid, Mr. and. Mrs. 33. W. Kane, Mrs. John Duncan, find Mr. Martin Luckie, and walked to the grounds through a guard of honour formed by the boarders. Mr. Johnston, ou behalf. o£ the Rev. Mother and the Sisters, thanked Her Excellency for her kindness in- coming, and asked her to declare the fete open. Lady Blodisloe, saying that this was "an occasion for deeds not words," paid a tribute to tho teaching gained in all convent schools. She expressed great pleasure at being present, and wished the fete every success. She was presented with a bouquet of pink sweet peas by Pamela Beauchamp. Her Excellency and party were entertained at afternoon tea in the convent dining-room, where there were also present Mr. F. de J. Clere (architect for the new building) anil his daughter, Sir Frederick and Lady Chapman, Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P., Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Gill, and Mr. and Mrs. Beauchamp. On behalf of the Rev. Mother and Sisters, tho Rev. Father M'Rae thanked Lady Bledisloe for attending and assisting their effort.
Stalls of all kinds were 'arranged round the tennis court, and all were well stocked and looked very attractive. Some small "sellers," in fancy costume, displayed their wares on trays in true pedlar fashion. The stall were in tho charge of the Sisters,.who were assisted by the girls, and also by Mosdames Gibbs, Bolton, M"Keowu, Collins, Connelly, Timmins, Scott, Grady, Ongley, Misses M'Keown, Collins, Macdonald, Cooper, Mathior, Cable, Brown, Ongiey, Ma/rriner, and Wright. The afternoon tea was under the direction of Mrs. Kenrick and Mrs. Kirby, and Mrs. M'Koown was iw charge of the side-shows. Tho Miramar Silver Band was in attendance. Among the many present were Mrs. Grace White, Mrs. W. S. Pearee, Miss Bowii, Mrs. Rutter, Mrs. Ormond Cooper, Mrs. H. M. Williams, Misses Margaret Dalziell, Alison Pearee, M. Buter, D. ,Fislier D, Martin, Mrs. B. White, and Mr. M'Dermott. '
