NEW PARIS FASHIONS
MODELS LOCKED. AWAY
At this moment the Paris dressmaking .establishments are hives of activity, bat they are exceedingly well guarded lives, writes iKe. Paris correspondent
to the "Daily Mail." Never before have tho loading dressmakers boon at sucli pains to conceal their intentions from tho outside world, and oven from one another.
The time is coming, it is predicted, when the dictators of fashion will be divided into as many camps as the members of the Chamher of Deputies. There, will be a struggle without quarter, but in the struggle the position of Paris may be weakened. Paris in future may utter discordant comments, and it may1 even fall to London to assume the leadership of the world of fashion. At present attention is concentrated on the evolution of new models for the autumn dress shows. Great precautions are being taken to prevent the leakage of news to the common enemy of all the designers— the copyist.
The embryo models are locked up in tho innermost rooms.of the experts, and very few people are allowed to see them. Special warnings have been issued to the members of'all staffs that legal action will be taken against them immediately if it is learned that they have betrayed the smallest secret .of their employers. The combined effect of these strenuous efforts to prevent the leakage of ideas and of the difference of opinion between the prominent designers regarding the proper length for next season's frocks is the prime cause of the "war" that is anticipated.
In these' .circumstances it is difficult even to guess at the fashions for 1931.
