HUTT GOLF TOURNEY

THE SEMI-FINALISTS

SOME CLOSE GAMES

Though most of the games in the second round of the Hutt Winter Cup, at the Hutt Golf Links yesterday, were never long in doubt, none of them were walk-overs. The semi-finals to-mor-row should prove interesting. Perfect weather yesterday made all the competitions pleasant, and the course improved every hour. SECOND ROUND. D. 0. Whyte beat W. G. Fisher, 3 and 2. D. C. Collins beat H. K. ■ Adamson, 3 and 2. M. Duncan beat W. G. Martin, 1 up. K. Wagg beat R. G. Hayward, 4 and 3. Why te led 3 up at the turn from W. G. Fisher, but the latter, having taken the- ninth in 2, came back in a. string of good holes, beating bogey on handicap over seven holes, and kept his position, Whyte winning 3 and 2. AVhyte's card was 79 and Fisher's 84. Adamson is always a hard proposition, and gave his shorter handicapped opponent some anxious moments. Collins was 1 up at the eighth, but put his tea shot in the lako at the short ninth, getting under the ball.' This put him on his mettle, and Adamson gradually dropped back. Duncan met a good1 golfer in, Ma?tiu. Both play a good long game, with the advantage to Duncan in iroil play, and so the. game was really decided round the greens. Duncan was 2up at the turn, but Martin played very steadily j thereafter, and at the seventeenth Duncan's lead was reduced to .1 up. Martin found the bunker at the last hole, and got barely out. Duncan was too strong with his approach. putt from a perfect iron shot, and missed his 4, winning by 1 up. Wagg had occasional jolts from Hayward, but was never seriously in danger.
