RED CROSS

The peaco-tiine executive of the local branch of the Red Cross Society met yeslerday. Mr. N. Grant presided in the absence of the. chairman, Mr. C. H. Chapman. Apologies were received from the Hon. Dr. W. E. Collins, Major Abel, Mr., and Mrs. C. H. Chapman, Mrs. Ellen and Mrs. Thornc.

-Mr. M. S. Galloway (secretary) reported that tho Town Hull had been booked for 2nd October for the visit of the blind boys' band, and it was unanimously agreed to give the Rotary Club every assistance in making the event a success. A cablegram of sympathy for the sufferers'in the Italian earthquake had been dispatched, and a reply was received. Donations had been received from General Motors, Ltd., £15 15s; Miss Downes, £5; Lady Beauchamp, £5; J. L. Button," £2 2s; Miss Florence Bell, £5. A grant from the Macarthy Trust was gratefully acknowledged. Reports from the Red Cross nurses showed that a class in first aid had been started at Scots . College, and classes at other schools had been held as usual. Investigations had also been made into necessitous cases.

Reports from the cafeteria workers, tho Unemployed Belief Committee, and the Ladies' Auxiliary were also received.
