MR. COATES'S TRIBUTE

Commenting on the death of Mr. James, the Leader of the Reform Party (the Right Hon. J. G. Coatcs) said that he and all members of the Reform Party had sustained a severe loss in the death of Mr. James, who for many years had been associated with the party as its Dominion general secretary. Mr. James had for a long period been pre-eminent among the workers for the party, and by his unselfish devotion to the Beform cause and his unswerving loyalty at all times, he had endeared himself to all who had been associated with him. His courtesy and willing assistance had helped considerably in building up the party; and his example had stimulated the enthusiasm of all those with whom he had come in contact. The death of Mr. James would bo felt with sorrow by a very large number of friends in all parts of New Zealand; and Mr. Coates wished to extend his own deep sympathy to Mrs. James and the family.
