KHANDALLAH AFFAIRS
The annual meeting of the Khaudallah. Progressive Association was held last evening, Mr. D. G. Clark presiding , over a fair attendance of members. The annual report stated that during the past year several extra street lights had been provided in Khandallah, but attempts to have Ouslow road lighted were unsuccessful. The Post , Office had installed a new- letter box in Cashmere avenue and another near the Presbyterian Church. Requests for the establishment of a Post Office, and for a public telephone near the Town Hall, ,were refused. New footpaths had been formed in many streets, j and the work was being continued. The association had asked the City Council to consider the project to widen the bridletrack and link it up with the road through the railway settlement at Kaiwarra. The Railway Department was prepared to grant the use of its road if, the council would maintain it; and the City Engineer was favourably disposed towards the project. A plan had been drawn, but no definite decision had yet been reached. The foreman of the Khandallah Fire Brigade reported that during the past year the brigade had done useful service in the district. It had answered -15 calls (two property fires, thirty-six gorse and scrub fires, and seven false alarms). The chief question before. the meeting whs that of access to Khandallali. One opinion expressed was that the widening of Nicholson road would shorteu the distance to the city by two and a. half miles. It was hoped, that, the road would be widened in time. Other schemes were discussed, some being possible in the far future. Mr. P. J. Brooker spoke of the excellent work done by the City Council since talcing over the borough of OnsJow. Beautiful public baths and lawns had been made, Nairnville Park, a fine reserve, had been constructed, and footpaths had received attention. The council had spent more on the district than it had taken in rates. It was decided to write to the City Council expressing appreciation of the work of the council's officers in the district, particularly that of Mr; Hill, the council's foreman. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr. D. G. Clark; vicepresident, Mr. P. J. Brooker; hon. secretary, Mr. H. A. Heron; hon. treasurer, Mr. W. H. Dillicar; executive committee. Messrs. C. E. Baker, C. N. Bradley, C. H. Rogerson, L. IS: Arcus, S. Wright; hon. auditor, Mr. R. S. Hirschberg.
