MAGISTRATE'S COURT

To-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M. One first-offending inebriate, who did not appear, was fined 10s, the amount of bis bail. A brawl between three men in Jessie street on Saturday afternoon led to Bernar! Leo Blair, Thomas Barnsby, and Archibald Burt being charged with fighting. Barnsby, who was the only one to appear, told the Magistrate. that lie had been kicked on the jaw, "and I wasn't going to stand that." Blair and Burt were each fined £2, and Barnsby, who had spent the week-end in the cells, was fined £1 and expenses 10s, in default seven days' imprisonment. : On the application of Detective Harding, a remand for one week was granted in the case of A. Cower, alias Phillip Augustus, Kesler, a salesman, aged 23, who is charged with obtaining £1 7s 3d from John Harrison by means of a valueless cheque. .
