THEIR SECOND DEFEAT.

Apart altogether from the fact that the result was somewhat unexpected, the y.M.C.A.-Wellington game was remarkable for- the low standard of hockey. Young Men, as a team, were not in their best form, and Wellington gave one of the most depressing displays Seen this season. At the • outset V.M.C.A. were forced to defend, but Wellington were unable to score from two successive corners. V.M.C.A. finally broke away, and Mac Donald, left wing, made a Solo run which resulted in his beating Guy fairly easily to score. From the next bully Wellington were aggressive, and their efforts were rewarded when Toms accepted a pass from" Hood and shot at goal, the ball glancing -into the net off the post. Young Men soon took the lead again from another tfolo effort by Mac Donald, and for the remainder of the spell they had the better of play ; Just before the interval Guy stopped a hot shot, but Ferguson caught it on the rebound and scored. V.M.C.A. 3, Wellington 1. Wellington's lack of combination became even more marked in the second spell, and excellent opportunities of scoring went begging for. want of a ready and accurate forward. A vigorous attack on their goal was checked by Guy in the nick of time, but Mead followed in and made tiie score: V.M.C.A. 4, Wellington 1. Wellington made desperate attempts to score, but failed time and again. Towards the end of the game a penalty bully was given against Martis for obstruction, the Wellington full-back clearing safely. There was no further score. Mr. W. Ourves was the referee.
