LYALL BAY AFFAIRS

ROADS AND FOOTPATHS

A DANGEROUS CORNER

I . ■ The executive committee of the Lyall Bay Progressive Association received a letter from the City Engineer at its last meeting, stating that the question of reconditioning the turf in. Palm avenue was under consideration, and art estimate of the cost would be prepared. "When the estimate was available it would be considered by the Works Committee. The Town Clerk advised that tho right-ofrway between Palm avenue and Freyberg street would be cleared periodically, and that the paving of road crossings not at present sealed would entail special preparation and treatment, for which there was not sufficient money available. These crossings would, however, be eliminated as the roads in the district were sealed. It was decided to complain to the T6wn Clerk regarding delay in receiving replies to correspondence which had been referred to other Departments for report. Messrs. A. C. Blake and W. F. Sherwood were appointed to wait upon the Works Committee respecting the following urgent requirements: Expenditure of tho sum provided in last yearns Estimates for a high-level footpath in Tavistock road and improvements in Buckingham street; continuation of the footpath in Queen's Drivo from Cruickr shanks street to Freyberg street; g-en-oral repairs and improvements to the footpaths in the district, particularly Onepu road, the west side of. Yule street (south of Coutts street), Palm .avenue, Wha street, and Apu crescent. A NEW WAITING SHED. It was stated that the erection of a waiting shed at the Lyall Bay terminus was under consideration by the City Council, and that the matter was at present in the hands of the City Solicitor to ascertain if a shed could be erected similar to that opposite the Kilbirnie Post Office. It was decided to request the City Council to level off the dump at the corner of Crawford and Wellington roads and improve its appearance generally by tho planting of shrubs, also to grade back the clay bank on. the opposite corner to enable motorists to obtain a better view. The assistance of the Automobile Association and the Civic League will also be sought iv this matter. The City Council is to be requested to beautify the banks in Crawford road and the open spaces in front of the tramway workshops in Onepu road. The question of increasing the membership of the association was considered, and it was decided to appoint a canvasser; the secretary, and Mr. Blaketo draw up a circular for distribution among residents. The president was authorised to interview the Mayor regarding equipment for the district's play area similar to the apparatus provided on the'Kilbirnie Eeserve. . . . -It was decided to support the efforts of the Evans Bay Foreshore Protection League, and Mr. P. E. Cairns was appointed to represent the association on the league's committee. Mr. A. C. Blake was congratulated on his appointment as secretary of the Civic League. . , BEACH IMPROVEMENTS. ; The 'committee- decided to renew its efforts for improvements to the beach. Disappointment was expressed that the Reserves Committee had not replied to the committee's letter of February last. The president stated that he had interviewed Councillor Burn and was assured that the committee's.decision and report would be available for the next meeting. ,
