A CAR OUT OF' CONTROL

WANGANUI, This Day.

A motor-car in reverse gear backed along the kerb beside the footpath in Victoria avenue about 8 p.m. yesterday, and brought down several verandah posts with a loud crash, the verandahs collapsing on to the footpath. The car then backed across the street and bit the dividing wall between two shops on the opposite ride. .The next move was to return, across the street and come to rest against another verandah post. ' '■•:.•

The car was not very-much damaged, but 60ft of verandah collapsed. Luckily no passers-by were injured.

Seated in the front seat of the car was Joseph K. Legge, of Gisborne, who was later charged at the police station" with unlawfully converting to his own use a car belonging to William A. E. Lowry, of Hunterville. ■■. • ":■
