A conference of ship-owning interests and s' "ppci's has opened in Sydney, being the first' since the recent legislation was passed enabling ship owners and shippers to enter into contracts for the carriage of goods. The main purpose is to determine how far freight rates eau be maintained at the present level, having regard to the severe depression and the Government's embargo upon ivcrsea cargoes. The chairman was Mr. T. S. Gordon. Tho deliberations are private.
