LONDON, 22nd May

The weather was dull and showery when play was resumed this morning at Chesterfield in Australia's match against Derbyshire. The wicket was good. Australia continued their innings of 54 for no wickets overnight, Jackson and Ponsford in.

Jackson was caught when he ha,d reached 63. Bradman joined Pousford, and tho pair had carried the score to 198 when rain stopped play. Ponsford then had 100 to his credit. Subsequently there were several adjournments owing to rain, and in scoring six short of 300 in the day- tho Australians did well, as the bowling was never loose.

The opening batsmen scored at a fast rate, recording a hundred for the opening partnership for the first time during the tour. The second 50 took thirty-five minutes. Jackson hit Slater and Mitchell for sixers, being very impressive to-day. Pousford was aggressive, and Bradman also attacked the bowling. Derbyshire's total was passed with nine wickets intact. The greasy ball handicapped the bowlers, and Ponsford scored boundaries in all directions until caught in the covers. He j hit 18 fours. Kippax, Richardson, and 'Jl'Cabe ivere unimpressive, and were dismissed after scraping a few runs together. Tho crowd cheered when Fairfax was'bowled after a dismal hour's batting.
