NEW ROAD WANTED
TO KOROKORO TOWNSHIP
'.. Korokoro township, situated in the hills to the west of Petono, has only one road leading to it, a long, narrow, winding thoroughfare, going.up behind the Petone railway station. The need for a new road to provide easier access was stressed at a meoting of the Korokoro Progressive League, on Monday. ' Mr. D. M'Keiizic (Mayor of Petone) presided over about fifty people, including the member for the district, Mr. W. Nash, and Councillors V. E. Jacobson and C. P. Brockelbank, of the Petone Borough Council. Three speakers, Messrs. S. J. Jones, J. Huggan, and H. Fabian, pointed out the faults in the one existing road, and suggested the formation of a new road running up through the old creek bed and through private property. The work could bo done by the Government (as Korokoro was a Government settlement) as an unemployment relief work. . Mr. Nash said that he was almost certain that Government support would be- forthcoming. No doubt a Government survey could be arranged, and he would go' into details and endeavour to get the work started. Support was also promised by Mr. M'Kenzie and Councillors Jacobson and Brockelbank.
Another matter mentioned at the meeting was the necessity for two more lights in Akatea road.
