A CLEAN SWEEP
FIRE IN AUCKLAND
BLOCK OP BUILDINGS BURNT (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A fire at 2 o 'clock this morning made a clean sweep of a block of old buildings used as factories between Exmouth and Dundonald streets, off Newton road. They included: Messrs. Allen and Vibert's, cabinetmakers; Tyler's, upholstery; Eoyal Clothing Factory; Moore's Boot Factory j Young's Brass and Copper Wire Factory; a.nd a building used for manufacturing\ ointments. The fire at an early stage was a huge conflagration, but tho brigade saved a two-story residence, the occupants of which, assisted by neighbours, removed their furniture and effects. The telephone and telegraph services were disconnected by the destruction of poles and wires. The building occupied by Tyler's on the top floor and the Eoyal Manufacturing Company on the two lower floors, was owned by Eobinson Bros., manufacturers, an_ was insured for £2550. Tyler's stock was insured for £450. The stocks in the Eoyal Manufacturing Company's portion wore covered for £300. Moore and Co. had their stock and machinery insured for £1750. Tho building, owned by Georgo Savvry, was insured for £900. W. L. Young's works, stock and sundries were insured for £500, and Allan and Vibert's'building for £1200.
